Plants produce 64% of the evaporation from the terrestrial biosphere: the phenomenon of the evapotranspiration. (A cornfield 1 acre in size can transpire as much as 4 000 gallons of water every day) In a future where major droughts will have deprived us of all our oceans, lakes and rivers… can plants be the keys to the water access? By bringing together architecture, technology and biology, the Evapo-sweaty Building responds to the problem of a waterless world.
A thick vegetal border to maintain freshness despite the rise in temperatures protects the building. These plants pump water into the ground and then their transpiration is captured in the veil. The water then flows into a retention basin in the middle of the patio. The basin supplies water to the interior equipment. Wastewater is decontaminated using phyto-purification tanks located under the construction.
Thus the section of the project is the transfiguration of a hydrologic cycle: an autonomous and infinite circuit allowing the Evapo-sweaty Building to be a house, an office building, an public equipment or a public space self sufficient in water.
