Situated along the Ulcinj’s Long beach (Velika plaža), the site is proposed to be a sports complex with a new city stadium which is expected to be a recreational locale for Ulcinj’s people. It is placed between the conjunction of land and sea, and encompassed with the dynamism of context and its future sport programs. This dynamism can be stretched into a series of polarised traits from the contextual interpretations.
Within such context, we found that the ‘horizontality’ of the existing site environment becomes the singularity to connect both ends of the polarized traits. It is the bridge to link both the nature & culture, land & sea, composure & animation, vacant & compact, serene & bustling, organic and synthetic ends.
In that sense, the proposal introduces the new sport complex and city stadium as a vessel to channel between this polarised spectrum. From the scale of a sport complex down to the stadium, the design concept reflects the notion of ‘horizontality’ to encapsulates a range of textures resembled in various materials.
The concept of horizontality draws a continuum to the underlying context of the project and its site, and implies a transition too- from the urban to the nature, solidified to dissolved, formality to informality, static to transient… They are all projected into the material spectrum above, which is later encompassed in the architectural design. The similar notion of transitioning are carried throughout the planning & massing strategies as well, portraying the coherence in totality.
